“When you want something, the whole universe conspires in order for you to achieve it” — The Alchemist
When someone undertakes any task with all his heart, all the forces of the universe come together to help him. It does not matter what religion, colour, race or nation he/she belongs to.
Many famous inventions and discoveries were inspired by dreams. Here are some notable examples:
- The Sewing Machine – Elias Howe, the inventor of the modern sewing machine, had a dream about being attacked by warriors carrying spears with holes near the tips. This helped him realize that the needle in his machine needed a hole near the point, leading to a breakthrough in sewing technology.
- The Periodic Table – Dmitri Mendeleev reportedly had a dream in which he saw the elements arranged in a logical order based on their properties. When he woke up, he quickly wrote it down, leading to the creation of the periodic table.
- The Structure of Benzene – August Kekulé discovered the ring-like structure of benzene after dreaming of a snake biting its own tail, which helped him realize the circular nature of the molecule.
- The Theory of Relativity – Albert Einstein often spoke about thought experiments and daydreams that led him to his revolutionary ideas. He once imagined riding a beam of light, which contributed to his insights into special relativity.
- Google – Larry Page dreamed about downloading the entire internet onto his computer. This idea led to the creation of the Google search engine.
- The DNA Double Helix – James Watson had a dream about two intertwined serpents, which helped him conceptualize the structure of DNA.
- The Idea for Frankenstein – Mary Shelley’s famous novel Frankenstein was inspired by a nightmare she had after discussing the idea of reanimation with her friends.
- The Design for a Helical Staircase – Nikola Tesla once dreamed of a functional spiral staircase, which influenced his later inventions and engineering ideas.
- The Tune for “Yesterday” by The Beatles – Paul McCartney reportedly heard the melody for “Yesterday” in a dream and quickly played it on the piano when he woke up.
- The Insulin Breakthrough – Dr. Frederick Banting had a dream about a way to isolate insulin, which ultimately led to the treatment of diabetes.
11.The Atomic Model – Niels Bohr dreamt of electrons orbiting the nucleus like planets around the sun, which helped shape his atomic model.
